Brown Bag on Immigration with Professor Linus Chan
August 17, 2017
The HUP invited Professor Linus Chan to present his research "From Sanctuary Cities to ICE: The Myths and Realities of Immigration Enforcement” on August 17, 2017 as a part of the HUP Brown Bag lunch series.
Professor Chan’s research is an examination of how immigration enforcement works, both conceptually and on the ground. He presented on how various immigration laws—city, county, state, and federal—interact and intersect when being enforced.
The presentation was well received, with attendees reporting that it was a good use their time. Many attendees told HUP that they would have liked to hear more from Professor Chan, and plans are underway to arrange a future event.

With the understanding that some award proposals will involve collaboration with community partners, HUP convened a networking event on Friday, March 3 to support potential connections between University researchers and Hennepin County staff around Grand Challenges proposals. The event included County staff experts who talked about the work they do in the context of the University’s identified Grand Challenges.
The event resulted in multiple Grand Challenge Award proposals as well as additional connections. Several Hennepin County staff were asked to be community partners on faculty research projects.
